Tunis, 11 June 2017:
The Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB) have reteated to Sabratha according to Libya’s former UN ambassador Ibrahim al-Dabbashi.
Writing on his Facebook page yesterday, he said that the BDB, which he called “a terrorist organisation”, was trying to occupy the town in alliance with Al-Qaeda elements in the town.
Dabbashi, whose family is from Sabratha, warned the town not to “repeat the fatal mistake” of allowing the BDB to remain. Its presence would create divisions with the town and be an excuse for others to attack. In the end, it would have to be fought.
The BDB have been accused of complicity in last month’s Brak massacre. It then withdrew back to Jufra airbase from which it was ejected by the Libyan National Army a week ago. It then tried to regroup in and around Misrata but this was rejected by the Misratans who by then had had enough of it. It was reported at the time that many of the BDB then went to Sabratha.
