Tunis, 15 Mat 2017:
The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) has given five “negligent” banks two weeks to sort out their chaotic opening hours and documentary arrangements.
Banks branches were not keeping to their official opening hours, said the CBL banking supervisors today, and were closing when they ran out of money. In addition, passbooks and bank cards were not being issued efficiently, with delays of up to three months, even though the CBL said that branches had adequate supplies.
The supervisors said they had written priority letters to the managements of the five offenders, the Gumhouria, Sahara, the National Commercial, Wahda and North African banks, demanding they improve their performance.
The CBL warned that it saw no good reason why services could not be provided in an optimal manner. The banks, it said, were negligent in the performance of their duties and were causing harm to their customers.
