Benghazi, 17 April 2016:
The army said today that it had ousted all IS and Ansar Al-Sharia fighters from . . .[restrict]Benghazi university’s campus at Garayounis. Two soldiers are reported to have been killed in the fighting and 11 militants captured.
Footage posted on social media showed jubilant troops in front of university buildings and a line of men praying beside a culvert.
However, fighting continued today around the cement factory at Huwari which one army commander claimed two days ago had been completely overrun. The cement plant covers an extensive area. One section, made up of rectangle of low buildings that has indeed been captured appears to have been used a jail where the terrorists held and tried prisoners. Soldiers discovered boxes of identity cards. The fate of their owners is unknown.
The army also launched Grad missile attacks on enemy positions in Gwarsha and claimed to have made some advances in the district. [/restrict]
