Tripoli, 25 September 2015:
Torrential rains have lashed Tripoli blocking many roads and bringing warnings to residents from the civil . . .[restrict]defence authorities not to drive in the city. In some areas, especially in the west of the city as well as in the east near Suq Al-Juma and on the Tajoura Road, vehicles have been completely submerged as rudimentary drains failed to cope.
The downpour started late yesterday afternoon, and continued through the night across the entire city, from Tajoura in the east to Janzour in the west, and down to the southern suburbs. This morning, it was still raining, but not heavily.
There have been no reports of any casualties or any roofs collapsing as a result (a not uncommon consequence of heavy rains with older buildings in the centre of the city) but some phone cables are reported to have been brought down, cutting land lines. The electricity supply is said to be fine.
Fortunately being Eid, most residents had bought up plenty of food and supplies for the holiday and have not needed to go out. [/restrict]
