Ghat, 24 May 2015:
One man was killed and two others wounded in two incidents in Sabha last night.
In the . . .[restrict]first, gunman shot and killed a men and wounded another in a drive-by shooting in the south of the town. Neither have been named
In a separate incident, a policeman was shot as he drove past an unofficial checkpoint set up by an armed group near the entrance to Sebha Airport.
According to the head of investigation at Gardah police station, Yahya Shuwail, the vehicle caught fire in the attack but the policeman managed to get out. He sustained moderate injuries and was treated at Sebha Medical Centre.
Meanwhile today, staff at the centre demonstrated outside to protest the lack of security on the premises and in Sebha as a while. Four days ago, one man died and six others were injured in a shoot-out that started outside the Bank of North Africa but then moved into the hospital.
Calling on the authorities to provide security at the centre and in the town, a spokesman for the protestors said that they could not continue working in such circumstances where the lives of staff and patients alike were in danger.
The most recent outrage, he said, had been the kidnapping of the hospital’s finance department head. [/restrict]
