Tripoli, 12 October 2016:
Members of staff at the Bank of North Africa branches in Fezzan and of Al-Buwanis district near Sebha have pritested today at the kidnapping yesterday of the bank’s southern managing director, Abubakr Jibril Zhrif Al-Fakhri.
He disappeared while on his way home from Sebha to Al-Buwanis, close to the Tamenhint airbase. His car was apparently found riddled with bullet holes.
The protestors complained that kidnappings like this would not have happened if there were a proper army and a proper police force at work.
Two years ago, the Bank of North Africa’s branch manager in Obari was kidnapped but later released after a LD 150,000 ransom was reportedly paid by the bank.
Sebh and its surrounding area have seen a wave of abductions, robberies and killing in the past year.
