Tripoli, 5 November 2016:
The Bank of North Africa’s southern regional manager, Abubakr Jibril Zhrif Al-Fakhri was released by his kidnappers on Friday evening. He as seized almost four weeks ago while on his way from Sebha to his home in Al-Buwanis, not far from Tamenhint airbase.
It is believed a ransom was paid, but this has not been confirmed.
The south has seen a wave of kidnappings comparable to that in Tripoli. Three days ago the mayor of Traghen, 125 kilometres south of Sebha, was kidnapped. There has been no news so far about him.
Al-Fakhri’s kidnapping resulted in protests by banks staff in the south who complained that the authorities bore responsibility for the kidnappings. They would not be happening if there were a proper police force and army in place.
