Benghazi, 23 March 2015:
Over the past week, a team of volunteers from the Libyan Red Crescent has delivered food . . .[restrict]and medical supplies to 5,000 people displaced by the fighting in Benghazi.
More than 21,000 displaced families have registered with the Benghazi branch of the Red Crescent and are living in rented houses, hospitals and schools, the charity organisation has said. Currently, there are 58 centres across the city providing shelter for the displaced.
The Red Crescent has worked closely with the Saudi Islamic Bank, which has provided much of the funding for the project.
In meetings this week, leaders of the tribes of Cyrenaica and Fezzan have said that one of their top priorities is to find a better solution for those who have been displaced–both internally and outside Libya’s borders–by the conflict. [/restrict]
