Malta, 20 February 2015:
The European Court of Justice has denied an appeal by Bashir Saleh to cancel a freeze on his assets, the Official Journal of the European Union reported in its 16 February 2015 edition.
The court’s ruling (Case T-532/14) in December rejected the appeal last July by the former chief-of-staff to Qaddafi.
Saleh, named in official court proceedings as Bashir Saleh Bashir Alsharghawi and referred to as of Johannesburg, South Africa, had been hoping for the release of his funds following a decision by the court in September to unfreeze the assets of Ahmed Qaddafedam, cousin of the overthrown dictator.
Qaddafi’s daughter, Aisha, meanwhile, is still waiting for the court to rule on a procedure she filed just before the ruling on Qaddafedam’s assets.
Mr Bashir Saleh Bashir Alsharghawi was ordered by the court to pay the costs of the proceedings. [/restrict]
