Tripoli, 8 February 2015:
An arts college in a Tripoli district that closed last week after receiving warnings and menaces . . .[restrict]plans to reopen tomorrow despite threats to blow it up.
Three vehicles – reportedly Toyota Tundras – pulled up outside the Advanced Institute of Art Techniques in Zawiyat Al-Dahmani on Wednesday night, according to college staff. One of these drove right up to the gates and used the front of the vehicle to ram the outer entrance, alerting the evening caretakers, who opened the gates.
An unknown number of men entered the premises and reportedly said: “God curse you,” before threatening to blow up the school if it was not closed down.
The college, which had previously received a threat, closed its doors on Thursday but have decided to reopen tomorrow. One staff member said it was the exam period – an important time for students trying to complete their degrees. He was nonetheless anxious about going to work following the threats, he stated.
The college was one of three sites in Zawiyat Al-Dahmani attacked over a two-day period last week. Also on Wednesday, a cultural centre was set ablaze and, on Thursday night, two historic tombs were demolished. [/restrict]
