Tripoli, 23 January 2015:
Libyan Airlines today launched a new route linking Zintan and Tobruk in the east. An . . .[restrict]Airbus A320 from Tobruk – the first Airbus to land at the airport – flew in to Zintan airport shortly before 11:30 this morning. The airport, some 20 kilometres south of the town, had been upgraded to accommodate the aircraft.
The mayor of Zintan, Mustafa Barouni, was there to welcome the inaugural flight.
According to local officials, there will now be a regular scheduled service linking Zintan and both Tobruk and Labraq in the east. Flights to Tunis are also planned. However, this will require authorisation from the Tunisian authorities and there has been no approval announced so far from Tunis.
Strong winds are reported to have made today’s landing in Zintan a bumpy one. [/restrict]
