Tripoli, 30 November 2014:
There continue to be conflicting reports that the border with Tunisia is closed. The crossing at . . .[restrict]Ras Jedir was said to have been shut down yesterday, though at the time this information could not be confirmed.
A Libyan taxi driver, who ferries passengers between Tunis and Tripoli for LD 150 a head, mentioned no shut down when he was speaking to the Libya Herald last night.
Tonight a Tunisian official told this newspaper that the border was still open but that there had been a heavy flow of vehicles from Libya.
One reason for the sudden increase in cross-border traffic is clearly the announcement by Zintani units of the Libyan National Army that they intended to take over the Ras Jedir frontier crossing. People are trying to get to Tunisia before the area is hit by fighting.
