Benghazi, 19 August 2014:

One member of Saiqa Special forces was killed and three injured in clashes . . .[restrict]across south east Benghazi last night.

Head of Saiqa Special Forces Investigations Unit Fadel Al-Hassi identified the dead man as Mohamed Al-Saiti. The names of the wounded individuals have not been released.

Hassi said fighting between Saiqa and Ansar Al-Sharia took place in Ard Al-Kuwadik in Buatni, at the nearby milk factory and at Al-Eyn water plant.

Meanwhile were reports early yesterday evening that Ansar Al-Sharia had managed to take Benina Airport have proved false and were flatly denied by Air Force Brigadier-General Saqr Adam Geroush. Hei said his Operation Dignity airforces were in the process of bombing the Ansar strongholds of Gwarsha, Sidi Faraj and Hawari.

Geroushi claimed that in Buatni, which has become Benghazi’s fiercest battleground since the end of Ramadan, Ansar Al-Sharia had begun forcibly evicting residents from their homes. He also alleged the killing of three civilians and the burning of several houses belonging to members of Saiqa Special Forces in the process.

Two days ago Saiqa began pushing back from its last position in Benghazi at Benina Airport towards Buatni. Prior to a massive Islamist assault in south Benghazi at the end of Ramadan, Saiqa’s largest base had been housed in the area which has now been mostly destroyed by the fighting.
