Tripoli, 16 June, 2014:
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) says that that severe shortages in fuel supplies have affected . . .[restrict]output the Misrata and Sarir power stations. It has told other power stations to increase output to compensate.
According to the LANA news agency, the shortages have led to a loss of 200 megawatts at the western Sarir power station. Misrata power station has lost 400 megawatts.
The North Benghazi station has also taken a hit and its operating level is down by 500 megawatts.
In response, GECOL yesterday ordered power plants unaffected by the fuel shortages — Zueitina, for example — to generate more power than normal in order to make up for the lack of production from the Sarir, Misrata, and North Benghazi stations.
Once the fuel supplies are back to normal and repairs made in areas where military operations have damaged power lines, the power stations will return to normal production level, GECOL says. [/restrict]
