Tripoli, 23 April 2014:
American Deputy Secretary of State William J Burns is in Tripoli to meet with senior Libyan officials, including . . .[restrict]acting Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni and First Deputy of the General National Congress (GNC) Ezzidin Al-Awami.
The US State Department said that the trip reaffirmed US support for the Libyan people, “as they work to achieve the aspirations of the revolution: a sovereign, democratic, prosperous and secure country.”
Burns will also meet with a range of political and civil society leaders.
His arrival, in a US Military plane, caused a lot of speculation on social media sites after images of the aircraft, at Tripoli International Airport, were circulated on social media websites. [/restrict]
