Tripoli, 1 May 2013:
The UN has called on Libyans to reserve their difference through dialogue, not action. The call is a . . .[restrict]response to the sieges of the Foreign and other ministries in Tripoli by militiamen demanding Congress pass the Political Isolation Law.
In a statement issued yesterday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that all Libyans should hold to the aims of the Libyan revolution – which were the construction of a modern, strong state based on democracy, the rule of law and human rights.
UNSMIL said that all Libyans, including the revolutionaries, should “join efforts at this critical stage of their country’s democratic transition to build the state and support its elected bodies and legitimate institutions”.
It said that institutions should be allowed to perform “the duties entrusted to them by the people” and that their authority and decisions should be respected. The way forward in achieving the goals of the revolution was through “constructive dialogue” when here were disputes, it stressed. [/restrict]
