Tripoli, 28 September:
Egyptian border guards have seized a shipment of some 20,000 packets of cigarettes being smuggled into the country from . . .[restrict]Libya.
The swoop took place in the Siwa Oasis, about 25 kilometres from the Libya-Egypt border.
The security officers reported seeing five 4×4 pickup trucks coming from the direction of the border and decided to intercept them.
One man was arrested, whilst the rest of the smugglers managed to escape back to Libya.
The seized shipment has reportedly been transferred to the relevant authorities, whilst the arrested man is being held in detention for four days, pending investigation. [/restrict]
