London, 21 June:
Libya’s Grand Mufti and Head of the Supreme Council for Fatwa, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani reacted last Tuesday to the . . .[restrict]use of photographs that included him by candidates for the 7 July elections as part of their campaigns.
The Dar Al-Iftaa (Fatwa Office) issued a statement in which it said: ‘It has been noted that some candidates have started publishing photos of themselves with the Mufti on the social networks.”
“The Dar Al-Iftaa wishes to point out to citizens that the Sheikh usually did not refuse anyone from being photographed with him even those who he does not know.”
“Therefore, the Sheikh declares that the presence of any photos of him on these sites does not mean his support of candidates in the elections or otherwise, with due respect to all.” [/restrict]
