Dar al-Ifta pronounces that all meat imported from non-Islamic states is not deemed ‘‘halal’’

Dar al-Iftaa, western Libya’s highest religious authority, announced today that following a visit by its inspection committee to Brazil, it stated that meat imported from non-Muslim countries is not deemed halal and therefore not permissible to eat.

It stated that in its view the use of the phrase “halal, slaughtered according to the Islamic method” is merely a marketing ploy.
