Benghazi, 14 May:
A heavy truck laden large amounts of smuggled wine and spirits crashed while heading to Libya from Sallum on . . .[restrict]the Egyptian-Libyan borders. Angry Sollum locals tried to set the truck on fire after they found out that it was smuggling alcohol.
The truck was ostensibly carrying cement for construction works in Libya. After it crashed, several hundred cases of wine and alcohol — 4,800 bottles in all — weighing six tons, was found hidden behind the cement.
The crash of the truck resulted in the road being blocked and caused a delay in traffic flow from Egypt to Libya. Sallum police and security forces removed the truck from the middle of the road so as to facilitate traffic flow.
