Members of the Qaddafi family are reported to have left Algeria for an undisclosed destination, according to Asharq Alawsat, the . . .[restrict]London-based newspaper. The paper, which quotes an anonymous high-ranking Libyan official, understands that the former dictator’s wife, Safia Farkash, currently remains in the country however, but would be allowed to return to her home town of Beida in the future.
The official added that Algerian authorities had passed this information to the Libyan government, and that there were no security issues surrounding Farkash’s proposed return as she had never been involved in politics or any of the crimes committed by other members of her family.
The other immediate members of the family are Qaddafi’s highly vocal daughter Aisha and his sons Mohamed and Hannibal together the latter’s wife. Although the Algerians would be very relieved not to have to host them, no other country other than Venezuela and Zimbabwe is believed to be willing to accommodate them.
