By Libya Herald reporter.

Tunis, 9 November 2016:

The new Arab League Special Envoy to Libya is to be Tunisian diplomat Salaheddine Jamali. He knows the country having been Tunisian ambassador in Tripoli during the Qaddafi era. More recently he served as Tunisian ambassador in Cairo. He succeeds Nasser al-Kidwa who resigned this summer.

Jamali is expected to take up the post immediately. On Monday, the Arab League said that that a new special envoy was about to be appointed but would not named for the time being until member states had been informed by Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Jamali is the second Tunisian diplomat to become a special envoy to Libya for an international organisation. A month ago, the African Union appointed Wahida Ayari as its special envoy. Like Jamali, she too is a career diplomat.
