Tripoli, 29 May:
Unexpected heavy rains in the oasis town of Tajarhi in southern desert region of Qatrun, caused major flooding on . . .[restrict]Monday.
Bubakr Mohammed from Qatrun told Libya Herald that many people’s homes had been damaged or destroyed as a result of the downpour and that they were forced to camp outside but no one had been killed. There had been some casualities however, he said.
Many of the homes in the area are made of flimsy materials — tin, palm fronds and mud — and were easily washed away.
Local officials have called for urgent government aid to help deal with the disaster.
The area is home to mainly Tebu people. [/restrict]
