Tripoli, 10 February 2015:
Unidentified vandals have set fire to a handful of farms in Jalu, causing damage to . . .[restrict]six groves of date palms.
The reason for the arson attack is unclear. Farms were damaged to varying degrees in the Al-Arq, Al-Liba and Al-Sharf areas, witnesses told Libya’s Channel
There were no local fire trucks. So residents were forced to put out the fires on their own properties. Fire tenders from nearby oil fields were called in to deal with the biggest blaze which was threatening Jalu town centre.
Civil society organisations have appealed to Jalu security forces to protect the area and carry out an investigation into the crime. They are also demanding fire trucks so they can deal with similar emergencies. [/restrict]
