Boys and girls are to be segregated in schools within . . .[restrict]territory controlled by Libya Dawn.
An announcement issued by the Education Ministry in the anti-government of Omar Hassi has ordered headmasters and education directors to ban the mixing of sexes “ in accordance with Islamic teaching and the views of leading educationalists”.
The separation of sexes also applies to teachers. The timing of the segregation appears confusing. While saying that the separation of males and females could happen “either immediately or gradually”, the announcement also provided for a delay of schooling, while the changes were introduced. The position of primary schools, where teachers are almost entirely female, also remained unclear.
