By Libya Herald staff.

Tripoli, 3 October 2014:

Sudan, which has been accused of supporting Libya Dawn, has said that it recognises the . . .[restrict]House of Representatives as Libya’s sole legitimate legislature. However, it has also said that it is neutral in regards to the conflicts in Libya and takes an equidistant position between all the factions to the country’s conflicts.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry issued a statement yesterday confirming Khartoum’s recognition of the HoR but which also called on the Libyan factions to negotiate national reconciliation.

It also summoned the Libya Chargé d’Affaires to protest at renewed accusations by Libyan army officials that Sudan had been supporting and arming militias in Libya. The undersecretary of the Sudanese ministry, Abdallah Hamad Al-Azrag, said that his country had not intervened in Libyan affairs but that it would be willing to mediate between opposing Libyan groups.

In a similar protest last month, Sudan denied supporting Libya Dawn and Islamists following accusations by the Libyan government that the Sudanese had been providing arms to Libya Dawn forces. The accusations followed the seizure of arms on a Sudanese plane that had landed in Kufra. [/restrict]
