A fashionable coffee shop in Tripoli’s upmarket Hay Al-Andalous district was fire-bombed yesterday. Unknown assailants threw . . .[restrict]a petrol bomb at Il Caffe di Roma’s latest outlet in the capital around dawn yesterday, staff told the Libya Herald. A security camera was working but did not record who threw the bomb. The attacker was beyond its view.
It is the first bombing of a coffee shop in the capital.
Neighbours have claimed that Islamists were responsible while staff suggested that the assailant could have been on drugs. So far there have been no claims of responsibility and no evidence to link anyone to the attack.
Staff at the coffee shop today were repainting and cleaning up the premises. Apart from the main door, there was only smoke damage. “We’re going to reopen in a few days’s time,” a staff members said. [/restrict]
