The trial Saif Al-Islam and Abdullah Senussi along with 33 other top officials of the . . .[restrict]old regime was today yet again adjourned, this time because half a dozen defence lawyers failed to turn up to the Tripoli courtroom.
The lawyer for Saif, whose client was once again appearing via a video link from a courtroom in Zintan, was among the missing attorneys. Meanwhile the court heard that Senussi remained unrepresented. Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief continues to demand a foreign legal representative while it appears that the court can find no local lawyer willing to take him on as a client. The trial of all the accused was adjourned until August.
Meanwhile in a separate courtroom, Saif’s brother Saadi was arraigned on a charge of murdering the Libyan football coach Bashir Riani. Further charges are expected relating to Saadi’s role in attempting to crush the revolution. He is due to appear in court again this Wednesday. [/restrict]
