Technical fault caused Petro Air plane to overshoot runway

Tripoli, 8 December 2013:

An electrical failure caused a Petro Air plane to overshoot runway 29 at Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport . . .[restrict]when landing after a test flight on Friday.

The Embraer ERJ-170, with the registration 5A-SOC, had two crew on board but no injuries or damage to the aircraft were reported, according to the Aviation Herald.

“On landing there was a complete electrical and failure and the only thing was for the Captain to apply the emergency brake which he successfully did,” a Petro Air employee who witnessed the incident told the Libya Herald. “Due to the Captain’s long experience and several thousand hours flying time, he succeeded in landing with the minimum of problems, but unfortunately there was a runway overrun,” said the employee, speaking on condition of anonymity.
