The National Oil Corporation (NOC) Chairman Masoud Suleiman hailed yesterday’s announcement of the completion of the 42-inch gas pipeline as a strategic achievement on a multiplicity of levels.
‘‘Despite the immense challenges and exceptional circumstances, the country has faced, the people of the oil sector have once again proven that will and determination can transform difficulties into achievements and challenges into opportunities.
A strategic achievement
The completion of the 42-inch gas pipeline, extending 130 kilometres from Zueitina Oil Company’s Field 103 to Sirte Oil Company’s Line 36B, is a strategic achievement that reflects the domestic workforce’s commitment to ensuring sustainable production and strengthening the infrastructure of Libya’s oil and gas sector.
Reducing gas flaring
The now-commissioned 42-inch pipeline will be used to transport gas to the Kilometre 91 Complex, where it will connect with Line 36B. This will enable more efficient gas transport from the Al-Faragh field, directly contributing to reducing gas flaring. Furthermore, it will support the supply of approximately 150 million cubic feet of gas per day to the main compression station, from where it will be pumped through the coastal gas network to supply consumers with natural gas.
Project halted since before 2011
This project, which was halted before 2011, is now seeing the light of day thanks to dedicated efforts and a strong sense of patriotism. It represents a significant step towards supporting the national economy, directly contributing to meeting the needs of the local market and exporting surplus production to global markets.
I extend my sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all the technical, engineering, and administrative teams from Sirte Oil Company, Zueitina Oil Company, and the National Oil Corporation who contributed to the completion of this project. They worked with a unified team spirit and a high level of professionalism and responsibility. The oil sector is capable of achieving the best when provided with the necessary resources to realize its objectives’’.
