The Acacus Restaurant was attacked with heavy weapons last night, destroying much of the building. No casualties were reported.
The southern town has seen a spate of attacks in the last month. Ten days ago the government and the General National Congress held emergency talks on the security situation in the area, following an attack on a police station which left three officers dead.
Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said that a comprehensive plan would be drawn up for security, as well as reconstruction and development, in the area. [/restrict]
