Tripoli, 25 February 2013:

The Integrity Commission has disbarred another five senior officials from the border town of Ghat.  It . . .[restrict]brings the number to 16 so far.

The latest are:

  • Abubakar Ali Abubakar Ala,  Director of the Administrative and Financial Department, Ghat Faculty of Science;
  • Abdulsalam Othman Baba Yahya, Head of Ghat police;
  • Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed, Director of the Water and Sanitation Company in Ghat;
  • Salem Abdullah Azzam, Director Asset Management, Ghat; and
  • Juma Masoud Abdullah, Diretor of Ghat Hospital

Also found to have been compromised by his involvement with the Qaddafi regime links in the latest list from the Commission is of Naji Mohammed Ali Ben Hassan, who is supposed to be joining  the board of the Libyan football Federation .

Others from Ghat who have been disbarred from holding office are the town’s two Congress members, Mohamed Ibrahim Makhi Abdulqader and Abdulqader Sidi Omar Sidi Sheikh El-Hash as well as:

  • Daoud Al-Haddad, secretary of the Youth Hostels Association in the town;
  • Mahdi Mohamed Moussa, the chairman of the town’s sports council;
  • Mohammed Abdul Rahman Jibril general manager of the Sanitation Department in Ghat;
  • Nasr Yousif Mohamed Gheryani, head of Ghat Local Council (GLC);
  • Abdulqadir Mohamed Abdurrasul, GLC Secretary;
  • Khair Saleh Khair Bika, GLC financial controller;
  • Issa Ibrahim Abdo Ibrahim, commander of the border guards at Ghat;
  • Almadani Abdullah Almurtada, head of Ghat’s Security Directorate.

In May last year, the Commission disbarred Mohamed Ramadan Sidi Omar, Ghat’s member of the National Transitional Council.

The town, which had the reputation of being a Qaddafi stronghold during revolution, is still seen by many as having lingering loyalties to the old regime  and with very few prominent figures untainted by past links.

More disbarments are expected. [/restrict]
