“We will deliver to our brothers in Syria everything that they need,” he said, referring to humanitarian and medical aid.
He made the statement on Tuesday after talks with a delegation from the opposition Syrian National Council which is visiting Libya. The delegation arrived on Sunday from Tunis where on Friday it had participated in a ‘Friends of Syria’ meeting with 69 governments intent on supporting the Syrian people in the present crisis.
“The tragedy of our Syrian brothers surpasses what we saw in Libya,” Jalil told reporters.
Libya, he said, was increasing its efforts “to help the Syrian people in the areas of humanitarian and relief,” and describing the international position towards Syria as “too little and too late — particularly the countries that have the right of veto in the Security Council.”
On 4 February, Moscow and Beijiing vetoed a UN motion condemning Syrian repression, provoking fury across the Arab world.
The Syrian delegation, headed by Imadeddin Rashid, had asked for help saying that it was unable to provide the minimum requirements to deal with the indiscriminate shelling together with extreme weather conditions.
The delegation later held talks with Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Tripoli Military Council. It was due to leave Libya on Wednesday.
Belhaj reportedly visited Syria secretly in December and met with a number of members of the free Syrian army. [/restrict]
