At an official ceremony held yesterday at its Tripoli headquarters, the Libyan General Union of Chambers of Commerce launched the Unified Digital System for Chambers of Commerce – to develop electronic services within Libya’s chambers of commerce.
Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade said this initiative comes in support of digital transformation, the development of economic services, and the enhancement of the business environment.
The launch of the system, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, is part of a strategic initiative aimed at:
– Developing electronic services within chambers of commerce
– Facilitating transaction procedures
– Contributing to supporting the business environment
– Raising the efficiency of institutional performance
– Modernizing the economic services system in Libya
Digital certificates of origin, Chamber registration certificates, trade statistics and verification
Specifically, the new system aims to unify the work of chambers of commerce by issuing standardized digital certificates of origin and chamber registration certificates. It seeks to achieve institutional integration that contributes to facilitating trade operations and providing statistics through a dedicated portal for the Ministry of Economy to review. Additionally, it offers a verification system for regulatory bodies, including customs and other relevant authorities, to verify certificates of origin and registration.
The Economy Ministry said unified digital system represents a qualitative leap in institutional workflow, reflecting the General Union’s commitment to unifying the digital platforms of chambers of commerce and enhancing the quality of services provided to the business sector. It is a strategic step in the economic digital transformation, aimed at consolidating the principles of digital governance and supporting economic development in Libya.
The programme included a visual presentation introducing the General Union and the digital platform, along with a detailed technical presentation outlining the system’s operational mechanisms and the services it will provide to business owners and investors. The presentation also highlighted the system’s role in expediting procedures, enhancing transparency, and establishing electronic connectivity among relevant economic entities.
The event also witnessed the handover of the system’s supervisory and technical components to the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Customs Authority, a step that, the Ministry said, embodies the level of institutional integration and strengthens digital connectivity among the concerned parties.
The event concluded with the official launch ceremony of the unified digital platform for chambers of commerce.
