Tripoli, 25 September:
Health Minister Fatima Hamroush has . . .[restrict]accused sacked government employees over a violent assault yesterday while she was attending a conference in Tripoli’s Corinthia hotel.
“There was an attempt to attack me but they did not reach me”, Hamroush told the Libya Herald. “I was rushed out of the Corinthia minutes before they managed to get to where I was.” Although they failed to get hold of her, she said they beat up ministry staff whom they managed to corner.
“They also held captive some of my employees in the ministry and beat them.”
Those responsible were injured revolutionaries, she said, but had been led by former staff from the Committee for the Care of the Injured, a body that had been closed down by the ministry because of mismanagement.
“They were led by a group of men who were earning from their employment at the Committee of the Injured and I made them redundant by my new regulations and blocked their lawless sources of earning”, she said. “They want me to reverse my decision or resign my post to them.”
It is not known if there were any arrests following the incident.
