Infinity Libya, a subsidiary of Infinity Group, and Al-Jouf Free Zone have officially completed and delivered Libya’s first-ever 1 MW solar power plant in Kufra, the company informed Libya Herald yesterday.
The project, which was handed over on 25 May 2025, was completed ahead of schedule and is now fully operational — marking a major milestone in the country’s transition toward renewable energy.
This achievement comes just eight months after the signing of the agreement on 24 September 2024, demonstrating an exceptional pace of development and execution. The plant, with a planned capacity of 1.14 MWp, was developed in collaboration with Lamsa Company for General Contracting and Real Estate Investment as the main contractor. The project is now run entirely by a trained team of Infinity Libya employed local engineers, reflecting Infinity’s commitment to local empowerment and knowledge transfer, the company explained.
The company explained that the solar plant will produce up to 2,182 MWh of clean electricity annually, directly supplying the energy needs of the Al-Jouf Free Zone. It is expected to save approximately 545,000 litres of diesel per year and reduce carbon emissions by around 1,300 tons, contributing meaningfully to environmental sustainability and energy diversification in Libya.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the project has driven local economic and social development by creating jobs and building technical capacity within the Libyan renewable energy sector, Infinity added.
