According to the private sector solar power system provider, Zadco, for the first time in Libya, solar-powered single pivot agricultural irrigation circles have been launched in southern Libya.

The company reported yesterday that an off-grid solar energy system has been implemented to operate a pivot irrigation system covering an area of 50 hectares, as part of a sustainable project aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy in agriculture.

The technical specifications of the system are:

• Solar panels: Panels from the global company JA Solar.

• Pumps: The system includes 2 submersible water pumps with a capacity of 75 horsepower each, along with an advanced control system for operating the pivot irrigation circle.

• Inverters: Two 75 kW inverters from the Italian company Weg Gefrun, of the VFD type, were used.

• Metal structures: Made of hot-dip galvanized iron to provide the required durability and strength.

• Protection system: Equipped with a grounding network and lightning protection, in addition to protective disconnects from Schneider Electric.

• Equipment room: Includes an insulated, air-conditioned equipment room containing electrical assembly panels and inverters.
