Tripoli based Libyan prime minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, opened the Al-Andalus Yacht Marina yesterday – as part of a series of project openings and launches during the 17 February Revolution 2011 anniversary celebrations.

This opened part of the marina includes luxury aparthotels, restaurants and cafes.

The marina is part of the larger Al-Andalus Tourism Investment Complex project, which is located at the start of the Hay Al-Andalus (Andalous) district in Tripoli.

During his visit to the project in October 2024, Aldabaiba had stressed the project’s importance in activating the tourism and commercial sectors to promote economic development in the country‎.

The complex includes the yet-to-be completed Sheraton hotel, the opened Four Points hotel, the unopened administrative complex and shopping complex.

Stalled projects due to lack of money, instability and legal wranglings
The complex, like hundreds if not thousands of projects and sub-projects across Libya, has been stalled since the 2011 revolution that ended the Qaddafi regime.

Lack of government budgets, political and security instability and contractual wranglings with the original foreign contractors (lack of payment and price rises), have been the overwhelming reasons for the halt in implementation since 2011.

It must be noted that there were no yachts moored at the marina during yesterday’s official opening.
