The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) announced today that it had ordered the pretrial detention, pending further investigation into the case, of the head of the Libyan Asset Recovery and Management Office (LARMO). The ACA is the oversight agency for state-sector employees.

Today’s revelation comes after the ACA had announced on 23 December that it had suspended the head of LARMO ‘‘for reasons and requirements of the public interest’’.

In today’s announcement the ACA revealed the details of the accusations against the LARMO head. It revealed that it had initiated criminal proceedings against the LARMO head on the charges against him.

After hearing his statements, the ACA said it confronted him with, what it referred to as, the facts attributed to him and punishable by law, such as:

  • Issuing assignments and authorisations to foreign offices, persons and companies to delegate the office and the Libyan State to recover funds, in violation of the provisions of the legislation and regulations in force.
  • Holding the nationality of another State without the consent of the competent authorities of the Libyan State.
  • Causing damage to the State and public funds.
