The Ministry of Health announced yesterday that it is permitting local private sector medicine import companies to import cancer medicines through a public tender process.

The announcement was made after the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Janah, attended the meetings of the Supreme Security Technical Central Committee to follow up on public and private health facilities.

Libyan patients stranded abroad, not receiving treatment
During the meeting, the file of Libyan patients stranded abroad was discussed, especially oncology patients who are not currently receiving treatment. The work done by the committee to resolve this file by holding several meetings and discussions with various parties was also discussed.

Permission to import cancer medicines granted to private sector
These meetings, the Health Ministry reported, led to an agreement to grant permission to local companies to supply medicines to oncology patients through a local tender – scheduled to arrive in June 2024.

The importance of the meeting was reflected in the attendees, which included the Chairman and members of the committee, the Head of the Internal Security Service, the Head of the Municipal Guard Service, and the Deputy of the General Intelligence Service, the Director of the General Administration of Central Support, the Public Security Service and Security Postings, the Assistant Head of the Petroleum Facilities Guards, the Director of the Law Enforcement Department, the Director of the Office of Device Affairs at the Stabilization and Support Agency.
