Last Thursday, the Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Planning revealed the partial preliminary results of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey Programme for 2022-2023.
Survey is an important database for strategic projects
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, the Director of the Media Office at the Ministry of Planning, Iman Omar, said the social survey programme carried out by the Department of Statistics and Census, the first since 2008, will form an important database for strategic projects. These are projects related to reforming the social system that contribute to developing development plans and formulating public policies in Libya during the coming years.
She said the database will be considered as indicative data for the legislative body in the country, as well as important data for the executive government agencies that will contribute to improving the quality of life in Libya.
Iman confirmed what the Minister of Planning, Mohamed Al-Zidani, pointed out, regarding the commitment of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies, led by the Census and Statistics Department, to track all economic and social indicators, conduct studies, statistical surveys, and the population census in a timely manner.
Correct statistics and surveys mean correct development programmes
She said government institutions, research centres, organizations, and international bodies will be provided with these indicators so that they can be a clear guide to development and a correct basis for national strategies in the coming years, because correct statistics and surveys mean correct development programmes.
To understanding all economic and social transformations
Iman indicated that the Ministry reviewed all demographic, social and health indicators in Libya, in addition to household spending and income indicators during this year and the previous year, which contributes to understanding all economic and social transformations in the country.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Planning announced the completion of the survey and its results without disclosing or publishing the results in an accurate and detailed manner during the announcement ceremony, on its website, or with its Statistics and Census Department. In July 2022, the World Bank placed Libya among the upper middle-income countries, which ranges between US$ 4,256 and US$ 13,205, based on national income converted to US dollars.
The announcement was made in the presence of the Minister of Planning, Mohamed Al-Zidani, the Minister of Social Affairs, Wafaa Al-Kilani, the Director General of the National Economic and Social Development Board, Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, and the Director-General of the Statistics and Census Department at the Ministry of Planning, several experts and specialists from various sectors, and the Director General of the Arab Planning Institute in Kuwait.
