A delegation of companies from the Libyan British Business Council (LBBC) is visiting Benghazi from 12-16 June. The delegation will meet a wide range of key economic and commercial leaders in Benghazi and hopes to build new connections and partnerships during the visit. The visit has been arranged in close collaboration with Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (BENCCI).

Among the meetings, the delegation will meet Muneim Elsaeiti, Chairman of BENCCI; Mohamed Ben Shatwan, Chairman of AGOCO and Majdi El Darisi, Chairman of Jowfe Oil Technology. The delegation will also call on the Manmade River Authority, the Committee for Reconstruction and Stabilization and the Privatization and Investment Board (PIB) where the delegation will also meet heads of the Benghazi and Derna Reconstruction Fund and the Elmreisa Free Zone.

The LBBC explains that it is a non-political business association established in 2004 to promote business relations and commercial activity between the British and Libyan business communities. It says it achieves this primarily through the provision of trade development initiatives and networking opportunities for its members.

The LBBC has over 120 company members, which include some of the UK’s leading corporations and represent every major industrial sector.

This is the first LBBC visit to Benghazi. Last year a delegation visited Tripoli and a further visit to Tripoli and Misrata is planned later this year. The leader of the delegation, former Ambassador to Libya, Peter Millett said “we are delighted to visit Benghazi and are extremely grateful to BENCCI for their support. We look forward to meeting the leaders of Libya’s economic institutions and private sector companies, hearing more about their ambitions and priorities and establishing close links for UK business to work with them in rebuilding Benghazi.”
