Harouge Oil Operations hosts several representatives of Malaysian oil companies

Harouge Oil Operations Company held a meeting with representatives of Malaysian oil companies, headed by the Malaysian oil giant, Petronas, in Tripoli yesterday.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Harouge Company, Khalifa Amr, and the directors of the technical departments in the company, in addition to the presence of the Director General of the General Union of Chambers, Asaad Al-Shartaa, and the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Malaysian side of the Libyan-Malaysian Joint Chamber, Aziza Binti Awang, and Mr. Zaki Al-Qadi, Head of the Libyan side of the Libyan-Malaysian Chamber Joint venture, representatives of oil companies and businessmen from both countries.

Challenges, enhanced production, modernisation and diversification
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, the Director General of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Asaad Al-Sharta’a, said that the meeting focused on discussing the main challenges facing the oil and gas sector in Libya and the NOC’s endeavours to enhance production, modernize the sector, diversify partnerships and exchange experiences.

Al-Shartaa emphasized the efforts of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture through the joint chambers of commerce with several countries, including Malaysia, to organize such fruitful meetings for both sides in various economic activities. This is especially the case in the field of oil, since Malaysian companies have good experience in this sector, especially Petronas Oil Company.

He said this meeting was coordinated to present the capabilities of the Malaysian side that can be utilized in the Libyan oil sector, especially in light of the National Oil Corporation’s plan to increase production until it reaches 2 million barrels per day.

Malaysian added-value
Al-Shartaa referred to the visual presentations presented by the Malaysian side, which included the technical capabilities that Malaysian companies can add to the Libyan oil sector in the field of maintenance, equipment supply and all technical works, in addition to exchanging experiences.

Reflect positively on the economy
He highlighted the concerted efforts of all parties, whether governmental or private, to activate economic activity in Libya and open a horizon for cooperation with foreign companies in various fields. This was especially with those that have experience and ability to work in Libya in a way that achieves the benefit of both parties and leads to good growth in the Libyan economy. This would then be reflected positively in the infrastructure and services provided to citizens and the improvement of the living situation in general.
