The General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, represented by its Director General, Asaad Al-Shartaa, and several directors of its departments and offices received a delegation of Malaysian business leaders and representatives of the Libyan-Malaysian Joint Chamber, led by Ms. Aziza Binti Awang, Chairman of the Malaysian Side Management Committee of the Libyan-Malaysian Joint Chamber, and Mr. Zaki Al-Qadi, Chairman of the Libyan Side Management Committee of the Libyan-Malaysian Joint Chamber.

During the meeting on Sunday, they discussed strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries in various fields, where the Libyan side stressed that Libya constitutes an investment opportunity for many Malaysian companies and businesses. The Libyan Union of Chambers renewed its call to work in coordination with the concerned authorities in the two countries to accelerate the reopening of the Malaysian embassy in Tripoli which would help deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Visit to Malaysia last March
It should be noted that this visit of the Malaysian economic delegation came after a visit made by the President of the General Libyan Union of Chambers of Commerce, Mohamed Al-Raied, to Malaysia last March. During that visit he signed a cooperation agreement with his Malaysian counterpart stipulating the encouragement of economic cooperation between Libya and Malaysia in all fields. In addition to holding seminars and exhibitions, exchanging information, facilitating visas, searching for the best ways to transport goods at the lowest prices, facilitating the registration of Malaysian pharmaceutical companies in Libya, encouraging investment in the field of agriculture and industry, and benefiting from the experience of Malaysians in the field of business and various industries.

It will also be recalled that the Director General of Libya’s Economic and Social Development Board (ESDB), Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, visited several institutions in Malaysia in February this year.
