The Tripoli Coding Academy, a space equipped to train young Libyans on coding skills and provide a supportive workspace for those interested in technology in Libya, opened last Thursday in an official opening ceremony. The Coding Academy is located in the historic Dar Hassan al-Faqih in the old city of Tripoli.
The academy is one of the initiatives of the Raqam-e project funded by the French government and implemented by Expertise France in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Governance and Libyan Municipalities to support Libya in digital transformation.
The Tripoli Coding Academy aims to support Libyan youth in building their digital skills, boosting their confidence, and helping them generate creative and sustainable solutions for their society.
It is one of the four academies equipped as part of the Raqam-e project in Benghazi, Misrata, Sebha and Tripoli municipalities. The rest of the academies are expected to open their doors soon, providing a wide range of services and opportunities for young people in various Libyan cities.
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald at the Tripoli opening event, the Deputy Director of Expertise France in Libya, Mohamed Al-Aswad, confirmed that these projects, supported by the French Embassy in Libya, with the participation of French experts, government agencies and Libyan institutions, come to support youth and provide a good environment to hone their talents, creative ideas and entrepreneurial work.
This renovated and equipped space (the Tripoli Coding Academy), he added, will provide an inspiring workspace for the growing technology community in Libya to train young Libyans in programming skills.
Al-Aswad pointed out that there are other projects by French experts aimed at encouraging young people to learn, develop their experiences and provide them with new skills, thus making them ready to enter the labour market complete in knowledge and skills.
The opening ceremony was attended by Nasr Al-Din Al-Fazani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mustafa Al-Mahraj, the French Ambassador to Libya, Maisaa Alrjibi, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of Local Governance, Alaa Hawass, member of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Tripoli, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Naas, Chairman of the Council Management of the Old City Administration, Nuri Aweiti and Ms. Hadia Gana, members of the Board of Directors of the Old City Administration, Mr. Julien Schmitt, Country Representative and Director of Programmes at Expertise France Libya, and his deputy, Mohamed Al-Aswad.
