The American Chamber of Commerce in Libyan (AmCham) recently organized a trade delegation of leading Libyan businessmen to the World of Concrete (WOC) trade fair in Las Vegas, USA, from 17-19 January. WOC attracts more than 60,000 industry professionals from all around the world, representing all segments of the construction industry.

First U.S. Commercial Service delegation ever from Libya
Tripoli-based AmCham president, Debbie Hirst, explained that the group was the first U.S. Commercial Service delegation ever from Libya. U.S. Commercial Service delegations are accompanied by a representative of the U.S. Department of Commerce and include benefits such as assistance arranging and scheduling appointments with U.S. exhibitors and a reception for delegates to meet up with U.S. companies interested in exporting to Libya.

The construction sector is among the highest priority sectors in Libya
Hirst said, “World of Concrete represented an ideal candidate for our first sponsored trade delegation to the U.S. The construction sector is among the highest priority sectors in Libya, and there is a community of sophisticated and active Libyan businessmen who are eager to follow the most modern trends in the sector. We were happy to be able to connect this community with a leading worldwide event happening in the U.S.”

Great support from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Embassy
“This event’’, Hirst continued ‘‘would not have been possible without great support from the U.S. Department of Commerce which advocated for the importance of this trade delegation occurring and the U.S. Embassy which recognized the ground-breaking importance of the delegation and was able to facilitate the visa application process.”

Participants in this delegation were nominated by the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce.
