Customs Authority delegation visits Spain to activate MoU

Libya's Customs Authority visits Spain to activate the 2021 MoU (Customs Authority).

A high-level delegation of the Libyan Customs Authority headed by its Director General, Major General Suleiman Ali Salem, visited Spain on the third of October to activate the Memorandum of Understanding between Libya and Spain signed by the Libyan Prime Minister in 2021.

The Customs Authority reported that the visit was based on the official invitation by the Director of the Spanish Customs and Tax Administration through the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It reported that the two parties discussed the agreement, which revolves around intensifying cooperation in the field of customs work, enhancing technical and information exchange and identifying points of contact between the two sides.

Field visits
To learn from the experience of their hosts, several Spanish customs sites were visited, including the headquarters of the anti-smuggling and drug police, the control room of ships and containers, the central room for automated inspection, the customs school and the analysis laboratories.

Met Belgian and Hungarian counterparts
On the side-lines of the visit, Major General Suleiman held several meetings with some personalities, including the Director General of Belgian and Hungarian Customs during their stay in Spain, who expressed their willingness and the possibility of coordination and cooperation in combating smuggling and organized crime.
