The Ambassador of Malta for Libya Charles Saliba confirmed to Libya Herald that the Consulate of Malta has started accepting Schengen tourism visa applications as of the 27th of March.
Those who wish to apply for a visa may contact VFS Global Tripoli directly online to schedule an appointment.
Visa fees
The Maltese authorities are keen that Libyans are not overcharged for visas by unscrupulous intermediaries. To this end, the Ambassador also confirmed and stressed that that visa fees are regulated by EU regulations.
The fee for a tourism visa will be €80 for any person over the age of 12 years and €40 euro for children between 6 and 12. The visa external service provider will also charge a service fee of not more than 40 euros. All fees will be payable in Libyan dinars equivalent.
First entry country rule applies
The Ambassador also confirmed that the Schengen rule that the first entry destination must be the country issuing the visa still applies. Libyans obtaining a Schengen visa from the Tripoli Maltese Consulate must enter Malta first before having the option to visit other Schengen member states.
Other types of visas
He also stated that other Schengen visas which are currently issued include medical, business, education, and reunion of families.
Visas from Benghazi soon
Ambassador Saliba also confirmed that currently discussions are being held with the service provider for visas to be issued from Benghazi and it is expected that an agreement will be reached in the coming weeks.
The Ambassador of Malta concluded that Malta, even in the current situation, will continue to support Libya and the Libyan people.
