London, 9 September 2021:

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas arrived in Tripoli today where he reopened his country’s embassy.

‘‘We are seeing good progress in the country and want Libya to continue on that path. For this to happen, elections and the withdrawal of foreign fighters are important next steps. The conclusions of the Berlin 2 conference must be implemented.’’, he stated upon his arrival.

Foreign Minister Maas said he and Prime Minister Aldabaiba agree ‘‘We must now quickly and thoroughly create the right conditions for elections to take place. The time has come for the citizens of Libya to take the fate of their country into their own hands again.’’
