London, 17 August 2020:

A floating Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) arrived at Brega and Zueitina Port on Saturday, the port reported.

The SBM is a loading buoy anchored offshore that serves as a mooring point and an interconnection for tankers loading or offloading gas or liquid products. The SBM is for Sirte Oil and Gas Company. It arrived onboard the vessel Lisa.

It will be installed in place of the old SBM number 5, which has been out of operation for more than three years. The SBM will be installed in September by manufacturers ‘‘Monobuoy’’.

The new SBM will allow for crude oil will be loaded at a rate of 600 to 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day through natural flow.

Following the installation and operation of this new SBM, maintenance of SBM number 6, which is currently operational, will be able to take place.

It will be recalled that SBM number 5 developed to a leak in the loading distribution system in mid-2017, which led to its shut down. Sirte Oil considered using an alternative SBM from a neighbouring oil company, but the difficulty of matching specifications and different operating systems of the SBM‘s of the two companies led to the exclusion of this idea and the resort to the purchase of a new shipping platform.
